Aretha Franklin Benefit Concert for The Joseph E. Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights Will Raise Funds and Celebrate Lowery's 86th Birthday

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 2, 2007 -- The Joseph E. Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights presents An Evening With Aretha Franklin. This benefit concert will take place at The Fabulous Fox Theatre on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 7:00 PM. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the work of the Institute, which is housed at Clark Atlanta University. The one night only concert is a celebration of the life and work of Dr. Lowery who recently turned 86. Each year, his birthday is marked by FREE symposiums and lectures that educate youth, and the public at large, on human rights issues. The concert will generate the needed resources that allow the Institute to offer these educational events. Funds will also support their advocacy efforts that have regional, national and global impact.

Public support of the concert will allow The Joseph E. Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights to remain focused on providing a forum for dialogue and a laboratory for research and analysis of issues related to human rights, workers' rights, election reform, criminal justice, voting rights, anti-poverty measures, economic justice, racism and sexism.

"The Queen of Soul," renowned for her soul recordings, will serenade the audience with music spanning her range of jazz, rock, blues, pop, gospel, opera and soul. Ms. Franklin is the second most honored female singer in Grammy history and is regarded by many as one of the greatest vocalists ever. "Her massive vocal range is undeniable. We are honored that she wanted to share her gifts with us for this special night in support of the work we are doing. By supporting events like this, you are helping us raise funds and build capacity to bring symposiums, lecture series, and workshops to the community free of charge," stated Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, Dean of the Civil Rights Movement.

Ms. Franklin has been a longtime admirer of Dr. Lowery's work and his continuing emphasis on justice and human rights. She is committed to supporting the Institute because of their advocacy work and to insure that Dr. Lowery's legacy continues.

Tickets are available via TicketMaster, while supplies last. Don't miss this legendary night as Aretha honors the work of the Institute, and pays "R.E.S.P.E.C.T." to Joseph E. Lowery in honor of his 86th birthday. For one special night, join dignitaries and many Atlanta community members who care about issues which are impacting us all. Tickets are $50, $75 and $100.
