A Salmonella outbreak has sickened nearly 300 people in 39 states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. Salmonella can be fatal in people with weakened immune systems.
When seeking medical treatment, patients should ask that a stool culture be done for a clear diagnosis of Salmonella poisoning. This is the only way the county board of health can confirm Salmonella poisoning. If the illness is not confirmed, victims could lose their right to legal compensation.
If you have the potentially contaminated brands, save the jar of peanut butter by covering it with a plastic bag. Place it in the refrigerator so that it can be tested to confirm the bacteria. It is important to maintain clean hygiene, as hand washing helps reduce the risk of spreading Salmonella.
